Hamlet Film Choice-Ken Branagh Version
After watching the three different versions of Hamlet, and reading a portion of the play, my favorite was the film directed by Ken Branagh. In comparison to the way that Shakespeare had written the play to the three different films, I feel that Branagh's version is closest to what I had pictured when reading the play in class. The setting in Branagh's film was spot on what I imagined when discussing the palace and the surrounding grounds. The scenery in the film captures the same mood that the play itself sends off. When watching this version I felt as if I were reading the words or seeing the play preformed in the era in which it was first popularized. The choice of actors in this version could not have been better. I think each actor fit perfectly in the role in which they were cast. The actor who plays Hamlet really demonstrates clearly, the feelings that we discussed Hamlet felt when reading the play. Kate Winslet as Ophelia was a great choice as well. What I enjoy the most about this version as opposed to the two others, is that this film follows the words of William Shakespeare word for word. As a class reading the play, we can follow along with the film and that gives us a much better focus and understanding of the difficult language. I am really enjoying watching Ken Branagh's version of Hamlet.
